History
Historians estimate Native Americans lived in and around Pasco County as early as 10,000 B.C. The first European settlers journeyed into western Florida in the 16th century, but the area remained unincorporated until 1887, when Pasco County was founded. Residents quickly demanded that the eastern and western parts of the county separate due to the distance between the county seat and other areas. The issue was finally resolved with the construction of government buildings in both Dade City and New Port Richey.
